Modulo, 2021
Proof of concept, Product design, Interactive
'Modulo' is a concept of a harmonica synthesizer.
The focuses of this conceptual
instrument are the exchange and the expansion of modules, and user customization. This device
consists of two main parts. The first one is called the command module on the far right side.
This module controls every other component and generates sound. The other parts are called
brick modules. Each brick has a microcontroller and pressure sensor to detect airflow from
the mouse. If it receives air blow, it sends the value to the command module for making a sound.
Concepts developed as part of a R&D project at HfK Bremen under the supervision of Prof. Andreas Kramer and Prof. Peter von Maydell for HOHNER Musikinstrumente GmbH in 2022-2023, with the aim to develop new harmonicas.

Every module can communicate with each other by using a magnetic connector which allows communication and a detachable, attachable function. Therefore, these modular functions can offer abilities of exchange of modules, expansion of functions, and customization by user’s preference.
